OTASEC Daily Briefing | 26-10-2026

A quiet day with a single item: commentary on PHP2Shell, which we have followed in recent briefings.

1Update: Waterfall on PHP2Shell and AI-driven exploitation of old vulnerabilities

Waterfall Security discusses PHP2Shell as an example of frontier AI turning long-known, hard-to-exploit vulnerabilities into real attacks. Andrew Ginter sets out what AI can and cannot do for attackers. His conclusion is that OT defenders should engineer attack paths away.

For asset owners: Do not assume an old, hard-to-exploit vulnerability is low risk: review which attack paths into your OT can be removed through network design, alongside patching.
